Valtcho Tonov is mostly a self-taught artist. He was born in Bulgaria in 1972. Valtcho began to look at art seriously at the age of sixteen when his family moved to Plovdiv, Bulgaria. He would often sit in vast rolling hills for hours with pencils and pad, or sit in meadows with oils and canvas.
After moving to the states in 2001, he soon settled in Louisville Ky. Valtcho has studied with some of Louisville's well known artists such as John Michael Carter and Emily Skiles.
Valtcho has shown his work in Nashville, IN, a well-known Artist Colony; at local cafes and art fairs.

He is represented by Jane Morgan Gallery in Louisville, KY, and is a member of the Plein Air Painters of Kentucky.

Valtcho works mostly in oils, drawing inspiration from such great artists as Lucian Freud, Sorolla, Sargent, Maistora and many others.
